Cool heads called for

Ahead of the encounter with Hannover 96, head coach at Hertha BSC Michael Skibbe has in no uncertain terms explained to his team the seriousness of the situation they currently find themselves in. "This season it's all about staying up," explained the Berlin boss in an interview with sports magazine "kicker". Having suffered two defeats in his first two games in charge, the capital city side have slipped down into 15th place and the 46-year-old is considering a change in formation on Saturday. "Maybe we'll actually move away from the 4-2-3-1 system. We need more stability on the wings," stated Skibbe whose side have the second worst home record in the Bundesliga. However, the head coach is uninterested in talking about a déjà-vu situation. Last season Skibbe guided Eintracht Frankfurt to a strong first half of the season, but when things took a turn for the worst Christoph Daum was brought in as his replacement and subsequently got the side relegated. The injuries to his backline are surprisingly similar though. Skibbe will be without Raffael (suspended), Andre Mijatovic (suspended), Christian Lell (suspended/torn muscle), Christian Janker (broken jaw) and Maik Franz (torn ligament).

Mame Diouf, the one and only winter transfer for Hannover 96, will definitely be in the Reds squad on Saturday. However, after just two training sessions 96 head coach Mirko Slomka was unwilling to confirm whether his new Senegalese striker would be granted a starting spot this weekend. The 24-year-old missed out on the first few training sessions at the beginning of the week due to complications with his work permit. Something else that's unclear is who will be filling in for centre-back Emanuel Pogatetz after he picked up a three-match ban. Former German international Christian Schulz and youngster Christian Avevor are the most likely candidates to step in. After Slomka's charges put an end to an eight match winless streak against Nuremberg last week, the 44-year-old has made it clear what he expects of his team. "We want to increase the pressure on the teams ahead of us in the league. Therefore it would be great if we could pick up more points away from home compared to the first half of the season," explained Slomka. The tactics are relatively straightforward, but first and foremost the Reds want to keep a clean sheet. "We want to maintain our good record, while up front we pose more than enough threat to score goals."
